The KMCT Centre for Sports Dentistry, the first of its kind in Kerala and the third in South India dedicated exclusively to Sports Dentistry, has been officially inaugurated at KMCT Dental College. The centre was established in collaboration with the Indian Academy of Sports Dentistry (IASD), an affiliated body of the Indian Dental Association (IDA).
The inauguration ceremony was held on August 4, 2025, at the KMCT Dental College campus in Mukkam. The event was graced by the Honourable Minister of Sports, Shri V. Abdurahiman, who officially inaugurated the centre.
The new centre aims to address dental health challenges faced by athletes, promote awareness and prevention of sports-related dental injuries, and enhance education and research in the growing field of Sports Dentistry across India.
As part of the inaugural function, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with the Indian Academy of Sports Dentistry, to promote collaborative growth and innovation in this emerging discipline. The ceremony was followed by a scientific session on Sports Dentistry, attended by leading professionals in the field.
The event witnessed the presence of several distinguished guests, including Dr. Ashok D. Dhoble, Secretary General, Indian Dental Association, Dr. Raveendranath M, Immediate Past President, National IDA, Dr. Atul Surve, Head of Education, IDA Mumbai, Dr. Roy John, Vice President, Kozhikode District Sports Council, Mr. Kamal Varadoor, International Sports Journalist, Members of the IDA, athletes, and prominent healthcare professionals showing strong support for this important initiative.
Through the establishment of this centre, KMCT Dental College strengthen its commitment to advancing education, innovative treatment practices, and community health promotion in the Sports Dentistry.
